Set cabinets maybe a little drywall. All new doors Alder, Alder trim baseboards and windows with mullions

My current front door, solid wood, walnut i think, is beautiful. Was installed in 1966 when the building was built. I want to upgrade the lock on it but the lockset is 5" rather than the new 2.34 measure. I have an idea to put a metal overlay across the area and relocate the hole, and refinish the door.
